With over 1,500 miles of beautiful white palm-fringed beaches along the mainland coast and round the romantic islands in the Indian Ocean, Mozambique is a wonderful destination for those looking to really get off the well beaten tourist path of some more popular beach destinations but still stay in comfort and style. The extensive coral reefs provide a habitat for a dazzling array of marine wildlife and offer some great diving and fishing opportunities. In addition the wildlife reserves and national parks are being rebuilt offering some great game viewing while staying in luxury lodges.

In the South, just off the coast from the Southern city of Vilanculos lies the Bazaruto Archipelago, consisting of four main islands. They are about 22 miles off the mainland and are reached by boat or plane. This is an area of unsurpassed beauty, reminding you how distant from the rest of the world you really are. Days are spent in dreamy isolation.

The further North you go, the more difficult it is to travel but ultimately the more rewarding your travel becomes. The Quirimbas Archipelago, just South of the Tanzanian border is a dramatic chain of 32 small islands stretching over an area of nearly 250 miles. The region is only now becoming accessible to the outside world.

The miles and miles of mainland coastline stretching over a distance of 1700 miles has astonishing beaches but there is no doubt that the islands are Mozambique’s strongest attraction.
