Site Map

With snow capped Mt Kilimanjaro ever present in the background, Amboseli is justly famous for its big game and scenic beauty. Kilimanjaro rising just over the border in Tanzania the highest single mountain in the world and the highest summit in Africa, dominates Amboseli being ever present as a backdrop. Game viewing is particularly easy in this park, which is basically a flat landscape of low bush; with some swamps from underground springs; a little broken forest and large tracts of grassy Acacia plains stretching over 152 sq miles of the national park. There is also a permanent concentration of animals in the area centered around the dry salt lake at Ol Tukai. Birds are numerous and a special attraction in the lake and marsh areas. Elephants are synonymous with Amboseli some say there are about 5 per square mile but you can also see giraffe, zebra, buffalo, long-necked gerenuk plus perhaps cheetah and leopard too.

Tortilis Camp

TortilisTortilis Camp is a welcoming blend of rustic style and modern comforts. Named after the local Tortilis Acacia trees the luxury tented camp is set in a totally unspoilt setting. Sheltered to the south by a grove of "Umbrella Trees" the camp faces out over a magnificent view of Mt Kilimanjaro. Your accommodation is in luxurious tents each with a private semi-circular verandah. Each tent is supplied with plentiful hot water and electricity powered by solar panels. Set on the gently sloping hillside the camp sits on the edge of Amboseli by the plains owned by the Masai People. Link to web site
