The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is to the west and north of Chobe National Park with the Linyanti River and the Savuti channel being the major features of the Reserve.

Within the Park, the habitat ranges from the swamps and flood plains at Linyanti in the north west, to the expansive grassy plains in the central western area of Savuti Marsh, to the lush riverine vegetation running along the Chobe River in the north east. It is this diverse habitat which gives rise to the variety and concentration of game found in the area.

The area of the Chobe River is renowned for the huge herds of elephants which concentrate along the banks of the river, sometimes in numbers in excess of 200 elephants also herds of up to 1000 buffalo can be seen, but throughout the park one can expect to see lion, hyena, hippo, giraffe, zebra, antelope and many other species. The Linyanti Swamps are home to the shy sitatunga and a tremendous variety of birds.

Kings Pool Camp - Linyanti

Kings Pool Camp overlooks the oxbow-shaped Kings Pool Lagoon and the Linyanti River to the north. The accommodation is probably the most comfortable in all of Botswana. There are 9 luxurious twin bedded tented rooms under cool thatch overlooking the hippo filled lagoon in front of the camp. Kings PoolEach of the bedrooms has its own large bedroom area, lounge, and private plunge pool. Each en suite bathroom has two showers, two hand basins and a separate flush toilet. There is an outdoor shower too for those who prefer to shower under the stars - and to be closer to Africa. The main lounge, pub and dining room are under thatch, and there is a swimming pool built into the deck. The main area is linked to the bedrooms by a raised walkway to allow animals wander freely around the camp.

Activities include game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers, night drives, boat safaris (only when water levels permit) and occasionally guided walks when the camp manager feels that it is safe to conduct walking safaris.

One of the highlights of Kings Pool are its two hides..... At the western end of the camp there is a thatched hide overlooking the Kings Pool Lagoon. Guests can enjoy those productive siesta hours watching the animals coming down to drink at the lagoon in front of camp. The real highlight though is the underground hide that is located a kilometre or two inland from the camp. Guests sit in the underground hide with their eye level just above water level. Its not unusual to have elephants feet and trunks almost within touching distance while guests are safely inside the hide.  Link to camp web site

Savuti Camp - Linyanti

Savuti Camp is situated in the Linyanti Reserve along the Savuti Channel in northern Botswana. The channel stopped flowing in 1980 and what was a Hippo-filled river, is now wide, open grasslands.

Savuti Camp

Savuti Camp is a comfortable camp providing accommodation in 7 large walk-in tented rooms with en-suite facilities. Five of the bathrooms are within the tents and two tents have bathrooms with wonderful open fronts facing onto the Savuti Channel. Each room is raised off the ground on wooden decks. The camp has a thatched dining area, pub and plunge pool, all on raised wooden decks. There is a waterhole close to camp and this attracts large numbers of animals that guests can view from the camp.

Activities include game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers, hides, night drives and walks with an armed guard. Game in the area includes all of Botswana's big game, and is one of the best areas in the country to see predators. Link to camp web site
